Procrastination: I can’t even think about that right now

Procrastination has a cost and it’s not what you think. It’s you!

The other day, I was on the phone with a friend who has been talking about quitting his job and starting his own business for quite some time. During the conversation once more, he said "Life is so hectic, I can’t even fathom thinking about doing this right now."

Mmmm… I go straight to ‘coach mode’ when I hear that but I try not to with family and friends but it makes you ponder.

When is it ever the right time to take massive action?
Would you know it, when you see it?

Or would you wait until it was painfully obvious? Possibly when you hit rock bottom… Do you have "this will never work" objections running wild in your head?

If you haven’t heard of the term "limiting beliefs" that’s exactly what those objections are! Limiting beliefs are thoughts or opinions that one believes to be absolute 100% factual when they are mostly not. They tend to stop you from moving forward and really serve no purpose. They are not keeping you safe, they are holding you back!

Are you running your own show or are they running it for you?

Now, that's BS!

B is for Behaviours

When thinking about something that excites you or that you’d like to accomplish…

Do any of these thoughts pop into your head?

  • I am really only just exploring the idea.

  • It probably won’t work, I don’t want to be disappointed

  • I don’t really need to make changes in my life, things could be worse

  • There is another priority right now, I don’t have time

  • What if I succeed and get everything I dreamed of

  • Not sure what my goal is

Or…deep down, are you thinking? "I don’t deserve to live my best life."
OR "Why try, I always fail to get there."

How is the behaviour of telling yourself a fictitious story, an excuse based from a past experience and then applying it into the future, serving you? "Well, it’s keeping me safe" I hear you say...

C'mon, that's real BS!

S is for Strategies

There, I said it. Probably not what you wanted to hear but if you find yourself stuck and you don’t have the conviction to move forward, then it’s about connecting you with something powerful that outweighs the fear.

Think about what you want in life. What could you achieve and who could you become if you used your full potential supported by powerful habits and behaviours?

What truly matters most? What will you do to make this happen?
What type of person do you wish to represent each day moving forward?

Try this simple framework to start to form action vs blue sky thinking:

  1. Name the goal: ____________________________

  2. Benefits: ____________________________

  3. Obstacles: ____________________________

  4. Knowledge required: ____________________________

  5. People required: ____________________________

  6. Action plan: ____________________________

  7. Deadline: ____________________________

Then, what is the immediate next step you can take TODAY? For example: Book that meeting, make that call, start writing that business plan!

Someone else said about this

"Stop waiting for the right moment, because sometimes it’s now or never."
