2023’s just rolled on and there’s no better time to step it up than at the beginning of the year as you’re full of hope and motivation. But as we know, that’s only going to get you so far… What you need to succeed are solid strategies from one of the highest rated Australian life coaches on Google.

Step up and take action to nail 2023 at the beginning of the year. Here we go!

Tackle the hard things head on

This edition of TBS is inspired by an amazing client, who I am lucky enough to coach on an ongoing basis. We had a few tough conversations we needed to have back in December and you know what… she made a few tough decisions and had some beginning of the year huge conversations with key people in her life.

The growth journey she has been on over the last 12 months has been about her stepping up, doing hard things and learning the lessons that kept being offered to her.

[Life coach proud moment for me]

If you need to make hard decisions, achieve a goal and create new habits then read on for a multi-tier approach to getting the rest of January 2023 off to a flyer. Follow these strategies.

S is for Strategies

BEGINNING OF THE YEAR STRATEGY #1

CREATE CLARITY ON THE DESTINATION

Ask yourself and pen it down on paper:

  • What do I need to achieve by May?

  • What do I need to achieve by August?

  • What do I need to achieve by the end of 2023?

Use this goal framework I use with nearly every client to identify what you are trying to achieve and work out the finer details to get there:

  • Goal:  ___________________________________

  • Benefits:  ___________________________________

  • Passion or Money:  ___________________________________

  • Obstacles:  ___________________________________

  • Knowledge required:  ___________________________________

  • People required: ___________________________________

  • Action plan:  ___________________________________

  • Deadline:  ___________________________________

BEGINNING OF THE YEAR STRATEGY #2

DEFINE WHAT CAN HELP YOU STEP UP

Ask yourself and reflect on:

  • How can I make better decisions?

  • How am I going to stick to my decision?

  • Who do I need to have tough conversations with?

  • What do I need to say?

BEGINNING OF THE YEAR STRATEGY #3

MAP OUT THE ACTIONS REQUIRED

  • What behaviours and habits need to exist for me to succeed?

  • What to do when the plan isn’t working?

Below is an exercise I do with nearly all my clients and it is right out of my life coaching tool kit.

“Many athletes have practised what can go wrong during competition, getting ready for anything. Michael Phelps, an Olympic swimmer had a goggle failure at the Olympics that could have cost him a gold medal. His goggles filled up with water and with one lap to go he couldn’t see anything. But he had practised this and knew exactly what to do in a moment of crisis and still won.”

To create habits at the beginning of the year that will last all year, knowing what to do when you are tired, lack motivation or when people are getting in your way enables you to switch to plan B, C and D.”

REFLECT ON WHAT COULD GO WRONG AND ANTICIPATE

  • Where could each of your habits break?

  • What’s the tough part in keeping them up?

  • Write down what you will do in that moment to keep going forward.

  • Be clear on not only plan A, but plan B (and C!)

  • Create a matra you can say to yourself, when the going gets tough.

There you have it, a multi-tier approach with many examples from my 5* rated life coaching practice.

SOMEONE ELSE SAID ABOUT THIS

“Don’t let someone else control what you do in life. It’s your decisions, your outcomes, your life.”
